Objective:
The stakes are even higher in this heart-pounding sequel to the FPS hit! An insidious threat has arisen in the form of a bio-terrorist organization and their two-pronged Gemini Virus. Your mission: Race around the globe to neutralize the terrorists before the plague is unleashed on humanity.
Parameters:
Reprise the role of John Mullins: patriot, weapons specialist, anti-terrorist mercenary and “Military Consultant.” Trust no one – only your ability to take out operatives with your brains, brawn and firepower. Failure is not an option.
GHOUL II Technology:
At the time of the original release, the addition of GHOUL II to the Quake III: Arena™ engine allowed for more animations, ore damage and more pulse-pounding action than ever before – with 36 damage zones and 16 dismemberment zones! Additional features included per-pixel hit detection, fully skeletal, soft-skinned models and a facial animation system for even more realistic characters.

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is a first-person shooter (FPS) video game developed by Raven Software as a sequel to Soldier of Fortune. It was developed using the id Tech 3 engine as opposed to the original’s id Tech 2, and published in 2002. Once again, Raven hired John Mullins to act as a consultant on the game. Based on criticisms of the original game, Raven Software developed Soldier of Fortune II to be a more “realistic” game, with more modern tactical shooters like Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (2001) and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six (1998) serving as inspirations, rather than Quake (1996).
Like the first game in the series, Double Helix pushed the boundaries of depictions of gore and violence, and is considered more graphic and realistic than most in the FPS genre. This time around, the theme was germ warfare rather than nuclear weapons plotting. The multiplayer mode had five different gametypes, and playing through the single-player story, a player could choose from four different levels of difficulty.
A largely unrelated sequel titled Soldier of Fortune: Payback, made by Cauldron HQ, was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2007.

Great Moments in Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix
Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is a great 2002 PC release. This game is famous for its high gore content. You can blown off limbs and blow people into chunky bits. Its rarely seen in todays games (FEAR had gore though). The graphics are pretty good for the time as is the enemy AI. There are no ragdoll physics but this game has the best death animations I have ever seen.
I installed a mod that changes the sound effects and certain parts of the game. However, it messed up the death animations so most of video is from the first 2 levels where you can see the good death animations. I have played Soldier of Fortune: Payback and it’s crap compared to Double Helix.
Enjoy!
